NFA CONTINUES TO BUY CORN

NFA buys corn at the government support price of P12.30 per kilogram and P13.00  per kilogram for the yellow and white variety, respectively, with additional incentives of P0.20/kg for drying, P0.20/kg for delivery and P0.30/kg as cooperative development incentive fund (CDIF) for farmers cooperatives or groups.

Administrator Jason Laureano Y. Aquino said that NFA field offices, especially in corn producing areas, have started accepting corn deliveries from individual and farmers’ cooperatives. He said cereal procurement funds and other logistical requirements in these areas are already in place.

Aquino said the food agency has so far procured 5,281 bags of yellow corn since the start of the year from corn producing areas such as Bukidnon and Davao del Norte.   Other field offices in Luzon and Visayas are also ready to accept corn deliveries anytime from farmers.

Based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the average farm-gate price of yellow corn was P11.09/kg and P11.28/kg, while white corn was P10.94/kg  and P11.03/kg for the first and second week of January, respectively.

NFA targets to buy 213,100 bags of corn for this year.
