Provincial Manager Beverlyn P. Peralta (standing) presents the NFA programs during the Special Session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Sur at the Provincial Capitol in Vigan City on October 25 emphasizing on the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Rice Sales through credit sales for LGU’s. PM Peralta also cited the accomplishments of NFA during typhoon Lawin particularly the immediate activation of the operations center (OPCEN) and the release of the rice purchases of LGU’s for their relief operations. She ensured the food security of the province and the stability of the supply and price of rice. In a privilege speech Board Member Efren Rafanan commended all the member-agencies of the Municipal/Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council who supported the province during the typhoon “Lawin” that hit the province.(JACQUELYN U. Today, the National Food Authority is vested the functions of ensuring the food security of the country and the stability of supply and price of the staple grain-rice. It performs these functions through various activities and strategies, which include procurement of paddy from individual bonafide farmers and their organizations, buffer stocking, processing activities, dispersal of paddy and milled rice to strategic locations and distribution of the staple grain to various marketing outlets at appropriate times of the year.
