Warehouse Visit NFA-Central District Office Manager Evelyn Medalla made the rounds of warehouses under her turf recently to oversee the issuance of stocks to Accredited Retailers, DSWD and farmers’ organizations/cooperatives under the Institutionalized Farmers as Distributors (IFAD) program from the Region. NFA – South District Office spearheaded by Manager Roberto S. Musngi, along with employees from the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), Philippine National Bank (PNB), Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Metrobank, and the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and other tenants of Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) Administration building participated in the simultaneous Metro Manila Shake Drill on June 22, 2016 led by the Bureau of Fire and Prevention (BFP) in behalf of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
METRO MANILA SHAKE DRILL NFA-NCR Regional Office and Central District Office employees led by Asst. Director Myrna Domingo (3rd from left) and Manager Evelyn Medalla (4th from left) participated in the simultaneous Metro Manila Shake Drill on June 22, 2016. The employees performed the “DUCK, COVER and HOLD” and evacuated to the nearest open area in the vicinity. AGRI-AQUA FAIR ON 118th PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY NFA-Central District participated in the Agri-Aqua Fair spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture in celebration of the 118th Philippine Independence Day at the Luneta Park on June 11-12, 2016. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Kalayaan 2016: Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong Tungo sa Kasapatan sa Pagkain”. NFA-CDO sold Well Milled Rice at P27.00/kg and P32.00/kg. BALIK ESKWELA CARAVAN NFA-Cavite participated in the Balik Eskwela Diskwento Caravan organized by the Department of Trade Industry (DTI) in coordination with the Provincial Government of Cavite. The caravan was held at the Provincial Capitol Compound in Trece Martires City on May 30-31, 2016. A variety of products at discounted prices were made available to the public. NFA North District Office recently conducted a briefing/orientation on the Philippine Grains Standardization Program (PGSP) and Food Guardian (FG) campaign with the officers and members of the Grains Retailers Confederation (GRECON) and other licensed grains retailers of the CAMANAVA (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela City) area at the office’s conference room.
The PGSP orientation/briefing was aimed at making the grains businessmen aware of the approved quality grains standards/specifications while the FG campaign was aimed at encouraging and involving the stakeholders to become volunteers in ensuring food security for the more than 100 million Filipinos.
Today, the National Food Authority is vested the functions of ensuring the food security of the country and the stability of supply and price of the staple grain-rice. It performs these functions through various activities and strategies, which include procurement of paddy from individual bonafide farmers and their organizations, buffer stocking, processing activities, dispersal of paddy and milled rice to strategic locations and distribution of the staple grain to various marketing outlets at appropriate times of the year.
