PFAB’s Special Meeting
NFA-Region XI hosted the Philippine Farmers’ Advisory Board (PFAB) special meeting on June 1, 2016 at the Blue Bless Beach Resort, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.
Chaired by Mr. Edwin Paraluman, the meeting was participated by the Regional Farmers’ Action Council (RFAC) Chairpersons and Provincial Farmers’ Action Council (PFAC) Chairpersons.
Provincial Manager Claro M. Astorga of NFA-Davao Oriental extended his warmest welcome to the participants and guests. Present during the gathering were Director Judy Carol L. Dansal of the Industry Services Department (ISD); Director Lemuel Pagayunan of Grains Marketing Operations Department (GMOD); Assistant Administrator for Marketing Operations Ma. Mercedes Yacapin; Assistant Regional Director Antonio C. Arañas of NFA-Region 11; Senior Grains Operations Officers Nilo Sabado and Melanie Gaudiel of ISD, Regional Industry Services Officer Ms. Marilyn Saliganan, Regional Investigator Ms. Ofelia Taniongon and Provincial Industry Services Officer Ms. Lynlee Lanaja.
Atty. Dansal, Dir. Pagayunan and Assistant Administrator Yacapin acted as resource persons during the open forum. Some of the issues and concerns raised were poor access to credit; influx of cheap/imported rice; rampant smuggling and oversupply of imported rice; land conversion; social protection and poverty alleviation of farmers; and food security.
