DEMOLITION. After several months of postponement, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) finally conducted the demolition of the fence of NFA office and warehouse located along the National Highway (Cotabato-Davao Road) in Kidapawan City recently. The action was part of the clearing operations of structures within the road right of way and road control area to give way to the road widening project. (Sherryl V. Polo, Acting Information Officer)
PFAC 2nd Quarter Meeting. The Provincial Farmers Action Council in North Cotabato led by ITS Chairman Dante Cudal (3rd from right) held their 2nd Quarterly Meeting at the NFA Farmers Training Center in Kidapawan City recently. Among the issues and concerns tackled were insufficient water supply needed for planting, rat infestation in the Municipality of Pres. Roxas, quality of NFA Rice issued to Institutionalized Farmers As Distributors (IFAD), scarcity of seeds in the province. They agreed to bring these to the attention of concerned government agencies. NFA Region 12 participated in the recently held Regional Corn Market Forum initiated by the Department of Agriculture (DA) through its Agri-business and Marketing Assistance Division in Koronadal City. The forum was meant to assist the different associations of corn producers in the SOCCSKSARGEN area (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat , Saranggani and General Santos City) to meet with prospective buyers such as the Biotech Farm, Progressive Farm and the National Food Authority.
COURTESY VISIT NFA-Sultan Kudarat Provincial Manager Janette M. Today, the National Food Authority is vested the functions of ensuring the food security of the country and the stability of supply and price of the staple grain-rice. It performs these functions through various activities and strategies, which include procurement of paddy from individual bonafide farmers and their organizations, buffer stocking, processing activities, dispersal of paddy and milled rice to strategic locations and distribution of the staple grain to various marketing outlets at appropriate times of the year.
